The regatta is a uniquely enjoyable week of ‘gentleman’s’ racing, passage making and social events. In just one week, while sailing to three of the finest ports in the Channel, there are two days of racing off Dartmouth, followed by the Classic Channel Race to Paimpol, then the Round Ile de Brehat Race, a passage race to Guernsey and finally the Round Sark Race.
The weekend brings together the opening weekend of the Classic Channel Regatta and the 50th Jubilee Annual Race of the Devon Old Gaffers Association. Gaff rigged boats coming for the weekend will have the choice of sailing in this OGA race or in the ‘Main Fleet Races’ for all rigs with the Classic Channel Regatta fleet.
This event, held at the Royal Dart Yacht Club for over thirty years, will be on June 1st. After a healthy Cornish Pasty lunch there will be a pursuit race in Start Bay followed by a prize giving at the club and evening dinner. Entry is open to any boat owner, the only requirement is that you have a doctor or other health worker on board. Entries are welcome from racers of all grades and non-racers are welcome in the Gentleman’s class for a leisurely sail around the course in non-racing mode.
Further details and entry forms are on the website on the Downloads page
The Royal Dart Yacht Club in association with Yachts of Dartmouth and Mark Chapman Yachts of Hamble is holding an event open to all Elan Yachts in August 2013.
The programme is planned to include:
There is a large following of Elans in the South Devon area to provide the nucleus of a fleet ranging form the new Elan 210 through 295s and 333s to Elan 350s as well as a number of normally cruising Elans. Class divisions will be determined by entry and a white sail option including cruiser class will be offered.
We look forward to welcoming boats from further afield, with interest expressed from Ireland and France already. The regatta has been timed to allow boats to stay on for Torbay Week (23-28th August) and the immediately following Dartmouth Week (28th August -1st September) making really worthwhile trip to the West Country.
The Royal Dart Yacht Club has extensive race and regatta management experience, running an extensive club racing programme, a well supported annual regatta of up to 300 boats, the J80 World Championship and Squib National Championship in 2012, and the Classic Channel Regatta to be held here in 2013. There are extensive facilities in the river with 3 marinas, full boatyard facilities, fuel, water, yacht taxi and numerous catering and accommodation venues to welcome you.
