Well, this season started so promisingly! Decent weather in April and May and some scorching days in June. But then it all went wrong in July! Temperatures may not have been much below the average for the time of year, but the sun has only been glimpsed fleetingly between bouts of rain and strong winds.
Peter Fairhurst's Dart Valley Rally 17-19 July was a great success despite the rough weather. At least we weren't at sea!
Looking ahead to the rest of the season:
There are two events I would encourage our cruising sailors to participate in:
No details yet, but expected be a "there and back" course, avoiding all the racing guys going round and round in circles. With very light winds and spring tides, this event was abandoned last year as no-one could get even half way to the turning mark. Hopefully we will have some finishers this year!
Please note that participants in the above events should check their insurance policies. An extension to cover racing may be required.
The new caterers at Salcombe Yacht Club (Les & Chris) will provide a 2-course carvery supper at £10 a head. Coffee or stronger drinks available from the bar. Timing 7.15 for 7.30.
Plan will be to use the visitor pontoon in The Bag. We are booked in with the Harbour Office, and they say there will be no problem with water taxis as their Moorings Officers will be on duty until 11pm.
Please book your place with me by 12th September latest. DO NOT contact SYC direct, as this causes confusion over numbers.
Please reserve this date. Further details to follow when known.
I am starting to work on this one, probably to be held in February 2010. Please let me know if you have any ideas for topics of interest to members.
