Notice of Race 2010

The Royal Dart Yacht Club will run the yacht races specified in this programme, subject to any variations considered appropriate by the Race Committee, which shall be posted on the Club Notice Board.

All races will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012, The Equipment Rules of Sailing, RYA prescriptions, the RDYC Notice of Race and RDYC Sailing Instructions.

Advertising: All races will be Category C events. (see ISAF Regulation 20).

Eligibility: Races are run for the benefit of RDYC members. Members of other clubs may enter races subject to the approval of the Racing Secretary, for which a supplementary fee of £25 may be required. All weekend events are open to members of RDYC, DYC and other South Devon sailing clubs.

Entry: All boats shall complete a Race Entry Form , also available from the Sailing Office, by 14 April 2010 if they intend to race in any races in this programme. There are separate entry forms for the Medical Rally and Alderney Race available from the Sailing or General Office.

Alderney Race Entry Forms: must be completed and signed by each crew member confirming that they accept it is the responsibility of the skipper to decide the vessel's suitability for passage making in the prevailing weather conditions before setting off. The completed entry form must be received in the Club Sailing Office on the day before the race.

Classes and handicaps: Any boat belonging to a recognised class shall comply with the rules of that class. Boats holding a valid IRC certificate must declare it. Handicapping will be at the discretion of the Racing Committee. The Racing Secretary may allocate a boat to a particular class. The allocation between fast and slow handicaps will be according to entry.

Scoring: Series will be scored as provided in the RRS Appendix A Rule 4 using the low points system, using Rule A9. Series ties will be broken in accordance with Rule A8. For a series, at least two races must be completed. One discard will be allowed if four or five races are completed and two discards if six or more races are completed. For the overall Wednesday Evening Series 12 races shall count, however many are sailed.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each series and where there are sufficient entries prizes may also be awarded to second and third places.

Prizes may be awarded to RDYC, DYC or SDCRA members or to members of invited clubs.

Safety Notice: You must bring the Safety Notice in this programme to the attention of your crew. A boat or competitor shall give all possible help to any person or vessel in danger. Rescue craft are not provided.

Insurance: Boats must have adequate third party insurance including third party racing risks.

Race Officer Duty: Competing boats may be required to supply a team to start and manage a race as indicated in the programme. When an owner acts as Race Officer and, as a consequence, his boat is unable to compete the boat shall score her average points (less discards) for that series.

Squib Pairs Trophy: During Wednesday Evening Series 2 and 3, a 12 race series with 5 discards per boat. Squibs participating in Series 1 will be paired by the Class Captain, Rear Commodore Sailing and Racing Secretary so that the predicted combined net score of each pair should be as near as possible to the median score for the fleet. The winners shall be the pair with the lowest net score. The Pairs Trophy is not team racing. No assistance is permitted after the Preparatory Signal.

Nonsuch Trophy for Squib Silver Fleet: An Overall Trophy to be raced for by the Squib Silver Fleet concurrently with overall Wednesday evening Squib series. (12 races shall count however many are sailed). Silver Fleet prizes will also be awarded for each of the three individual qualifying series (6 races per series, 2 discards).
All Squibs in the Dart Fleet are eligible for the Silver Fleet with the exception of the top third of finishers (rounded up to the nearest whole number) in the preceding season's Audrey Gill Trophy.. Any boat not included in the preceding season's results may be included at the discretion of the Class Captain, the Rear Commodore Sailing and the Racing Secretary.
