Welcome
Letter to Yachtsmen and Yachtswomen visiting the River Dart The Royal Dart Yacht Club is a modern, welcoming and friendly organisation - its 1200+ members come from all ages, interests and walks of life. We warmly encourage you to apply for membership and the club guidelines are set out below. Please don't hesitate to contact us to proceed further or to answer any questions you may have. 1. Candidates for membership should apply in writing on the appropriate form (available in rack in foyer or from the Secretaries Office). Please send applications to the Membership Secretary. 2. Candidates for full membership require two referees who will be written to by the Membership Secretary. Ideally referees should be members of RDYC who have known the candidate for at least a year. If the candidate does not know RDYC members then references from members of other yacht clubs will be accepted. If this is not possible please speak to the Hon Secretary. 3. It will assist Committee Members in voting on the proposal if the candidate can accept an invitation to a Club 'At Home' (first Saturday in the month) to meet them before the application is considered. Alternatively candidates may be asked to meet with the Commodore on an informal basis. 4. Subject to the approval of the General Committee the candidate(s) application form (top half only) is posted on the Club Noticeboard for at least fourteen days, for members information. 5. An 'approved' proposal is then presented to the General Committee for election at their next meeting. 6. Once the application is approved by the Committee, the candidates entrance fee and subscription becomes payable. Once these fees are paid the candidate becomes a member of the Club. In the event that a candidate does not pay his fees within a month the membership application becomes void. But the Committee can waive this condition in exceptional circumstances (e.g. prolonged absence abroad). Anne Wilson
Please accept our welcome to the Dart and our warm invitation to you and your crew to use the facilities of the Royal Dart Yacht Club during your visit. We have the usual things you would expect in a yacht club including showers. From our bar, terrace and dining room there are unrivaled views over the mouth of the Dart. We have an excellent chef. The dining room is open at lunchtime and in the evening for a la carte dishes or set menus. Bar snacks and a dish of the day are available from the bar. On Sunday evenings in July and August we run a BBQ from 1800, weather permitting. The atmosphere in the Club is quite informal, so please do not have any reservations about coming. You can reach us by tender or water taxi to our pontoon, or on foot by following the road past the railway station and lower ferry. We hope to see you here. Yours faithfully, Hon Secretary Royal Dart Yacht Club
