YACHTING FACILITIES
RACING
The Royal Dart Yacht Club runs a full programme of racing
for yachts and keelboats from April to October each year.
There are weekly races on Wednesday evenings in four
separate series, One Design Regattas on several weekends
and a Short Handed Series and several coastal and offshore
races for yachts. All these events take place or begin outside
the river in Start Bay.
There are separate
classes for
IRC-rated yachts
and cruisers rated
under Portsmouth
yardstick. The main
keelboat classes
are J80s, Squibs,
Scimitars and Dragons. The Club is a major contributor to the
Dartmouth Royal Regatta, held in late August each year and
widely regarded as one of the major and most enjoyable yachting
events on the south coast.
MOORINGS & STORAGE
The Club has exclusive trot moorings for yachts and dayboats of
up to 10m overall length. Small tenders can be stored in racks on
a pontoon or ashore and a Bosun's Locker is available for storing
oars and outboards. A Club launch serves the trot moorings on
race days. Members and visitors may berth their yachts alongside
the Club pontoon, provided they do not leave the premises.
There is a scrubbing grid with water and mains electricity.
TRAINING
The Club is an RYA
recognised teaching
establishment.
Junior members are
taught dinghy sailing
at the weekends
within a programme
that is tailored to
RYA qualifications
and the development
of a love of sailing, including racing.
"Ladies Afloat" runs a summer programme of instruction and
hands-on sailing experience in dinghies, keelboats, yachts and
motorboats - all designed to extend participants' skills and
confidence on the water.
