Short Handed Series 2008 - Sailing Instructions

Series 1: 22 June, 28 June (two races), 26 July.
Series 2: 7 September, 14 September, 21 September, 28 September.

Eligibility and Crew

Races are organised for members of RDYC, DYC and SDCRA. If sufficient boats enter there will be a separate course for boats with a PY of 1050 and over. Yachts under 30ft overall will have a maximum crew of two. Yachts 30ft and over will carry a maximum crew of three. One extra crew may be carried, but a rating penalty of +0.020 for TCF yachts or -20 for PY yachts will be applied. For the Brixham Race and Short Handed Night Sail all yachts will carry a crew of three. Self steering (including electronic) may be used. This changes Rule 52.
Yachts entering the Brixham and Night Sail races must comply with ORC Category 4. Supplementary sailing instructions will be available from RDYC two weeks before the Brixham and Night Sail Races.

Start Time and Time Limit

Sunday Races start at 10:00. Brixham Race start: Saturday 14:00. Night Sail Race start: 20:00.
The time limit for Sunday races will be 13:00 with a 30 minute extension if one boat finishes within the time limit.
The Brixham Race time limit will be 18:00 with no extension, the Night Sail race time limit will be 08:00 on Sunday 29 June, with no extension. This changes Rule 35.

Start Line and Course

BP line or Committee Boat and Outer Distance Mark. A course from the RDYC Race Courses will be indicated at the Committee Boat or from the Club Line. Self starting by one of the RDYC Racing Committee may be required.

Courses for Brixham and Night Sail Races (28 June)

Brixham race: BP line or Committee Boat and Outer Distance Mark, to Homestone (Port) to Brixham Finish line between Brixham YC Race Box and Red Buoy. The West Rock Buoy, the Mew Stone Buoy and Rock and Cod Rock shall be passed to seaward at all times.
Night Sail Race: Start Brixham (Brixham YC Race Box and Red Buoy). Signal by hooter from RDYC representative boat. Finish at a line joining Castle Ledge Buoy and Homestone Buoy and record own time. The West Rock Buoy, the Mew Stone Buoy and Rock and Cod Rock shall all be passed to seaward at all times.
Heavy Weather: In the event of heavy weather or a heavy weather forecast both races will be conventional races in Start Bay. The Night Sail will only be sailed in moderate conditions.

Scoring

The Low Point scoring system of Appendix A will apply.
The races will count as two separate series. Discards will be allowed as specified in the Notice of Race.
