Special Sailing Instructions for Coastal Races 2008

Races Covered

These instructions apply in addition to the RDYC Sailing Instructions to the following races:
Dart to Yealm, Yealm to Dart, Gallon of Rum Race, Alderney Race, Cawthorne Cup.

Common instructions

Eligibility, Entry, RDYC Representative

Races are open to members of RDYC, DYC and SDCRA.
Competitors must complete an RDYC Registration Form and lodge it with the RDYC Sailing Office before 18:00 on the day preceding the race.
Yachts must comply with ORC Category 4.

The designated RDYC representative afloat will fly Code Flag 4 on his backstay in addition to the Class Flag. All competitors must identify themselves to him prior to the start and notify him on completion or retirement. The Western Blackstone, the West Rock Buoy, the Mew Stone and Cod Rock shall be passed to seaward at all times.

Self Timing

Yachts are to certify their own times of finishing. Please note sail numbers of boats ahead and astern. Times are to be notified to the designated RDYC representative within one hour of berthing.

Time Limit

Time limits are specified for each race. See specific race instructions, below. The time limit will be extended by one hour if one or more yachts finish the course within the time limit. This alters Rule 35.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the leading yachts.

Dart - Yealm Race: Saturday 12 July 2008

Course

Start Line. Sail direct to Finish Line.

Start Line

Prolongation of the line joining the two flag staffs at Blackstone Point, with the Castle Ledge Buoy as the outer distance mark. Start line to be crossed from North to South, leaving Castle Ledge Buoy to port.

Finish Line

A line formed by two white poles adjacent to the hut at south side of river Yealm entrance at Mouthstone
Point, crossed West to East.

Yealm - Dart Race: Sunday 13 July 2008

Course

Start East to West across the Start Line. Sail direct to Finish Line

Start Line

A line formed by two white poles adjacent to the hut at south side of river Yealm entrance at Mouthstone
Point, crossed East to West.

Finish Line

Prolongation of the line joining the two flag staffs at Blackstone Point, with the Castle Ledge Buoy as
the outer distance mark. Finish line to be crossed from South to North, leaving Castle Ledge Buoy to
starboard.

Alderney Race: Saturday 19 July 2008

Entry

Competitors must obtain an Alderney Race Entry Form (by telephoning the General Office), complete it and obtain the signatures of all crew members confirming that they accept it is the responsibility of the skipper to decide the vessel’s suitability for passage making in the prevailing weather conditions before setting off. The completed Entry Form must be received in the Club Sailing Office by midday on the day before the race takes place. Failure to comply with this requirement invalidates the boat’s entry.

Course

Start Line then sail direct to Finish Line.

Start Line

Prolongation of the line joining the two flag staffs at Blackstone Point, with the Castle Ledge Buoy as
the outer distance mark. Start Line crossed from North to South leaving Castle Ledge Buoy to port.

Finish Line

Defined by the line between the North side of Fort Albert and the Breakwater Head, crossed North to
South.

Gallon of Rum Race: Sunday 27 July 2008

Course

BYC Finish Line Green.


Cawthorne Cup: Saturday 20 September 2008

A course will be indicated by the course board shown at Blackstone Point or on the Committee Boat in the vicinity of the Castle Ledge Buoy.
