Well the Bar-B-Q summer didn't happen down here in the South West but we did have some sunny dry days in September and I hope many of you managed to get some fair weather sailing in.
Things generally quieten down after Dartmouth Royal Regatta at the end of August but this year RDYC hosted the Squib South Nationals in September and with 39 entries, a sunny weekend and some testing sailing conditions it was a great success both on and off the water.
The last cruiser rally of the season was to Salcome with 18 boat crews enjoying dinner at Salcombe Yacht Club. It was nice see a couple of motor cruisers in attendance and not just because they usually have some spare ice on board for the pre-dinner pontoon party.
The last race is next weekend, the dinghy pontoons have been put to bed in Waterhead Creek and the laying up supper is at the end of the month but we have an interesting winter programme of social events, lectures and walks to look forward to. In November the Bar and Catering committee will be rolling out the new club wine list and menu with an evening of wine tasting and dining. Early next year, round the world yachtswoman De Caffari, has been booked to give a talk at the club, so keep your eyes on the new year club calendar.
I hope to see you all in the club over the winter and while we won't be doing any sailing we can at least talk about it as we make our plans for the 2011 season.
